# Medellin
- ⭐️ parque arvi
This is the national park that the cable car goes up to. Take the metro to Acevedo and then take the stairs up to the connecting cable car (there is one paid transfer between the main cable car and the national park one). If you only do one thing in Medellin, this should be it.
- the botanical garden
This is on the way to/from the Acevedo metro for the cable car. The botanical garden is free to enter, and In Situ is the good restaurant inside.
- ⭐️ ciudad del rio
The area where I live, with the nice park full of people, an art museum, food trucks, and nice restaurants. See below for food recommendations.
- ⭐️ medellin escalators
I recommend this instead of the second smaller cable car. There's incredible street art on the way up, and it's a quick bus ride from the end of the east/west metro line that goes from Suramericana. Just google for instructions on how to get there, it's not difficult.
- paque lleras
The heart of Poblado, you'll certainly pass through here are some point, whether by accident or on purpose. It's surrounded by restaurants in all directions, though beware of tourist-trap restaurants, most of them are not particularly good.
- cafe/hostel Ondas
A cafe/hostel in Suramericana with a good coworking space downstairs, lots of travelers pass though. They have regular events on weeknights as well. They can connect you with guided tours in the area, and generally are well connected in the city.
- ⭐️ the mountain road to (6.333894, -75.678068)
Biking directions aren't consistently available via google maps, but walking directions are just as good. Where these direction end is a beautiful lookout point over the neighboring valley. If you don't make it all the way over to the next valley, that's fine, the journey still affords an incredible view of Medellin on the way. Bonus points for doing it early in the morning to see the clouds rolling in. The bike ride up is quite steep, if that's a deterrent then I recommend biking around town on one of the "ciclovia" days instead (major roads are closed to cars, open for bicycle and jogging use only on monday evenings and sunday mornings).
- transversal 39b
Crepes and Waffles is a great little sit-down chain for breakfast/brunch, but this whole street is also pleasant to walk along, this is the backbone street of Suramericana. Lots of small shops and a university at the south-eastern end where it meets up with the highway.
Don't forget to check out the Centro area as well, I haven't listed anything here for it, but there's still plenty to see (museums, parks, and public art).
Restaurants:
If you're around the Ciudad Del Rio area and want to snag lunch/dinner with my friend Max and I, we'd love to join you. 100% the best place to go for food is Mercado del Río. Don't come to Ciudad Del Rio without at least checking it out! It's a food market, the likes of which you could find in SoHo. Not particularly unique to Colombia, but still worth seeing. There are also many food carts to the north east of the park which start to appear around 6-7pm.
If you're in Poblado, definitely go to ⭐️ Carmen and get the tasting menu. Other than that, just check Google Maps and other sites for reviews before going to random Poblado restaurants, they're all safe, but of varying quality.
Enjoy your stay!

[10:51 PM, 6/19/2018] Nick Sweeting: unfortunately the "no reggaeton" rules out 99% of places
[10:52 PM, 6/19/2018] Nick Sweeting: it's definitely hard to find anywhere out of earshot of that incessant "bum ba bum ts bum ba bum ts"
